Install opencream TV on your Samsung TV
Samsung's store only installs apps from its own catalog. Everything else goes on once from a computer, with the TV in Developer Mode. Plan about 20 minutes the first time. Updates are quicker.
What you need
- A Samsung TV from 2019 or newer (Tizen 5.0+). Check your model
- A computer with Windows, macOS or Linux, on the same home network as the TV
- A free Samsung account
- Your IPTV login: server address, username, password
The recommended way: Apps2Samsung
Apps2Samsung is a free community installer for Samsung TVs. It is made by independent developers, not by us or by Samsung.
Step 1. Find your computer's IP address
- Windows: Settings, Network, your connection, "IPv4 address".
- macOS: System Settings, Wi-Fi (or Network), Details, "IP address".
- Linux: your network settings, or run
ip addrin a terminal.
It looks like 192.168.1.20. Write it down.
Step 2. Turn on Developer Mode on the TV
- Open Apps on the TV.
- Type 1 2 3 4 5 with the remote's number buttons. On remotes without numbers, press the 123 button to show them on screen.
- Switch Developer mode to On, enter your computer's IP address and confirm.
- Restart the TV: hold the power button until the Samsung logo appears.
Step 3. Install Apps2Samsung on your computer
Download it from its Releases page: https://github.com/Apps2Samsung/Apps2Samsung/releases
Step 4. Open Apps2Samsung and sign in
It finds your TV on the network. When it asks, sign in with your Samsung account. This creates the certificate Samsung requires for your TV. Apps2Samsung keeps it for later installs and updates.
Step 5. Pick opencream TV and install
Choose opencream.tv in the category IPTV & Live TV. The form asks for your IPTV login. You can fill it in, or leave it empty and type it on the TV.
Press install. opencream TV opens on your TV.
It's running. Two small favors:
- Tell us your TV model works: send a compatibility report. It helps the next person with the same TV.
- If you like it, tip Matthias a coffee.
On the TV afterwards
Your login. If you left the form empty, the app asks for your login when it first starts. You can change it any time in the app's Settings. To add a backup server, type several server addresses separated by commas.
Start the TV in opencream TV. In Samsung's Settings, General, Start Screen Options, turn Autorun Last App on and Start with Smart Hub Home off.
The Home button. The remote's Home button still opens Samsung's home. An app cannot change that. To get back quickly, put opencream TV first in Samsung's app row: highlight it, press down (or hold OK), choose Move and move it to the far left. Then Home, then OK usually brings you back.
Updating
Update the same way you installed: open Apps2Samsung and update opencream TV. Your login, your dock and your favorites stay on the TV.
The form Apps2Samsung shows during an update only matters for a first install. To change your login, use the app's Settings.
To hear about new versions, watch releases on GitHub: github.com/opencream-ai/opencream-tv (Watch, Custom, Releases).
Install with a coding agent
If you use Claude Code, Codex or a similar agent that can run commands on your computer:
- Clone the repository: github.com/opencream-ai/opencream-tv
- Open it in your agent.
- Ask: "Install opencream.tv on my TV, following AGENTS.md."
The agent asks you to do the parts only you can do: turning on Developer Mode and signing in to Samsung.
About your login: if you give the agent your IPTV login, it passes through that AI provider and is saved in local/config.local.js on your computer. To avoid both, skip it and type the login on the TV.
Switching methods: Apps2Samsung and a coding agent each sign the app with their own certificate. To switch from one to the other, uninstall opencream TV first. Uninstalling clears the app's settings, so you will enter your login again.
When something goes wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| The installer doesn't find the TV | TV and computer must be on the same network. Check that the IP address in Developer Mode matches your computer's current IP, then restart the TV. |
Check certificate error (often [118,-12]) | The certificate doesn't match this TV. Sign in to Samsung again in the installer so it makes a new one. |
| The install is refused on an older TV | The TV is older than 2019 (Tizen 5.0). It isn't supported. |
| "Could not connect" in the app | Check the server address, username and password with your provider. Several servers can be entered, separated by commas. |
| A channel says the connection slot is taken (HTTP 460) | Your subscription allows one device at a time. Stop playback on the other device. |
| No sound on some channels | The channel uses an audio format this TV can't play. Press Down during playback and pick another audio track. |

Install questions
Does Developer Mode harm my TV?
Developer Mode is a setting built into Samsung TVs for installing apps from a computer. opencream TV installs as a normal TV app. It doesn't root or change the TV's system, and you can uninstall it like any other app.
Can I install Android APK files instead?
No. Samsung TVs run Tizen, which can't run Android apps. opencream TV is a Tizen app.
Not sure about your TV yet? Try opencream TV in your browser first, or check the compatibility list.
